What is disc golf?

It's golf ... with discs. It's drives and approaches and putts. It is a great sport that is fun to play and easy to learn.

Like the ancient game played with clubs and balls, disc golf provides recreation, challenge, and competition for athletes who love the outdoors. Both golf games share the same structure and thrills - players striving to complete the course in the fewest strokes, but needing only one great shot to bring them back another day. The only real difference is the equipment.

What is it about Freestyle Frisbee that has captured the imagination of so many players around the world? Is it the flight of the disc, how it hovers in the wind? Is it the seemingly endless number of moves you can learn - whether it be trick throws, catches, tips, spins, brushes or rolls? Is it the spirit of the players, old and young who freely share their moves with new players - even if they don't speak the same language? Whatever the cause, there seems to be no cure for freestyle fever, so newbies beware, it's highly contagious!

In Freestyle Frisbee there are no set rules about how to do a move, players are encouraged to create new moves and to develop their own style. Freestyling or 'jamming' can at times be like an art form - when a player is no longer thinking about the moves and is just flowing with the disc.

Two new stages added to the Jam! Local favorites Rhett Miller (of the Old 97's) and John Medeski will be performing on the Awareness Village Acoustic Stage this year along with Michael Franti and many others. The Awareness Village, co-presented by Woodstock Wellness and Headcount, will once again host panels and interactive discussions on personal and planetary awareness, have massages and chiropractic thearpy, drumming, energy clearings and much more. On our new campground stage, we've added a host of emerging artists that will play in the late afternoon to the wee hours of the morning! BuzzUniverse, The Movement, The Trapps, Pimps of Joytime, Hot Day at the Zoo, Stoney Clove Lane are just a few of the acts to keep the music going! Check back in May for the schedule.
